Mary Lim was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1993 with two older sisters. Her parents had immigrated to America from Korea that same year, while moving around from place to place until finally residing in Chicago, Illinois in 1998. Mary was heavily influenced by her mother who exposed her to different art mediums at an early age. Throughout middle school and high school, she took classes at art programs such as Gallery37 and Marwen in Chicago. There, she was able to learn about mosaics, woodworking, ceramics, and printmaking. Her high school also offered a variety of art classes, where she took Sculpture I and II, and Painting and Drawing I. Though initially drawn towards sculpture and architecture, she began to take an interest in graphic design. Still, she continues to merge architecture and graphic design in her work, creating an interesting dynamic between flat and dimensional. She now attends the Kansas City Art Institute to earn her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Art History.
